Brista CHP plant
Brista plant is a combined heat and power plant outside of the ancient town of Sigtuna in Sweden.
Since 1997 the bio-fuelled CHP plant in Brista is together with the Hässelby plant one of the two main production plants in the north western district heating grid in the Stockholm area. The grid supplies the municipalities of Sigtuna, Arlanda, Upplands Väsby, Vällingby, Järvafältet and Sollentuna with district heat.
Since 2013 a new waste to energy combined heat and power plant has been running at the Brista plant, supplying both heat and electricity for the country's capital area as well as handling more of the region's waste. This means that the city of Stockholm will be even better prepared to meet the challenges of an ever growing population.
The waste to energy CHP plant in Brista is one of the most modern facilities of its kind in the world, which means that we can ensure maximum efficiency of the municipal and industrial waste that will be the fuel of the plant.
The bio-CHP plant, Brista 1, producers 763 GWh heat and 293 GWh electricity every year. 350,000 tonnes of wood chips are burned every year to produce the electricity and heat.
The waste to energy CHP plant, Brista 2, uses 240,000 tonnes of municipal and industrial waste to produce 490 GWh heat and 120 GWh electricity every year.
